NaBloPoMo: Or Something Like That

Well, for those of you who haven’t heard of it – November is NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month. I guess wordpress felt left out, or bloggers felt left out, or people who tried writing novels but couldn’t decided they needed something easier… Thus, NaBloPoMo – National Blog Posting Month – was born! I see NaBloPoMo as a good way to motivate myself to continue putting effort into this blog, by hopefully challenging me to keep up and find an interesting take on whatever it is I want to write about.

The goal of NaBloPoMo is to write a blog post every day of the month. This is an unrealistic goal at best for me, but I’m going to try to do the next best thing. Not counting this post, I have 18 posts on this blog. My goal for the month will be to double that content. Not in number of words or anything, since again I think that’d be overly optimistic (ie doomed to fail), but in number of posts. The constraints will be as follows:

  • I must create at least 18 new, unique posts before 12:00am on December 1st, 2013.
  • No more than 5 video posts may be counted toward the 18 unique posts.
  • No more than 2 posts made in the same day may be counted toward the 18 unique posts (no spamming out 10-word posts on November 30th at 11:45pm).
  • Posts will not be constrained in terms of content, but must be relatively substantive, and ideally some posts will be exclusively poker, some exclusively non-poker, and some a mix.
  • Posts will not be constrained by a minimum word length, but a few paragraphs will be the expectation for a reasonable minimum.

I’ve always been one to enjoy competitions, and hopefully this one will be no different, and will allow me to enjoy the process more than I have as of late, as well as motivate me to pump out more content after the month is over. That being said, it’s a competition now, and competitions can be won or lost. If I win, I plan to treat myself to some type of splurge (undecided as of yet), and if I lose, well, I’ll have to think about some ideas for that too.

In terms of how to go about winning, I noticed right away that the minimum days I must write on will be 9 (if I were to make 2 content posts each of those days). So I think trying to front-load the month with a lot of 2-post days will be a good way to get me started and hopefully even exceed my goal. I’ve actually been playing a lot of poker lately, so drawing on that for my early content posts and then using current events in my life later on in the month should lead to a good content balance.

Whether it’s the competition aspect, or if I’ve just missed writing, I’m looking forward to getting back into this blog more. Expect more content soon, a bankroll update on the horizon, and some talk about goals both in poker and in life. I hope that some of you who read this will start your own blogs, or were already writing them before I conceived of this little slice of the internet. Whether you’re a fresh-faced blog noob, a grizzled blog veteran, or don’t even know what a blog is…

Happy NaBloPoMo!!

(Happy Nabba-what now?!)
P.S. If there’s any particular poker concept, ethical idea, or random event you’d like me to write about, please leave a comment!! I’m sure I’ll be struggling at least a little bit with ideas once I’m more than a few posts in, so inspiration is always appreciated!!

  1. Good luck. I’ve really got to up my post count too. Got a few things half written, just need to get motivated to finish them off!

Thanks! I find myself already falling behind my schedule for the first few days – which was to at write at LEAST a post a day. Oops. But you should definitely do more with your blog – I miss reading about your pub poker and travel.

      Cheers.
